What if I only want to do a SPECIFIC job, Like Penciller, Inker, etc?

To expedite this, send the same submit form with a cover letter explaining your desire to be a _________(fill in the blank) and include a proposal with samples relevant to your desired job, like a script sample for 4 or 8 pages of art for a writer (and the same 4 or 8 pages as finished product if your script went to production. For those desiring positions as pencillers, inkers, letterers, colorists or tone workers the same basic rules apply, 4-8 pages of art before and same 4-8 pages after you're done your work on them with the script you followed to help create the pages. For pencillers, please submit base pencils, detailed finished pencils (and the finished product pages after inking, if any) with script as standard. Any others involved in the artwork (like artists or others that helped you) will have to fill out submit forms or execute a letter of consent as the copyright holder saying it's okay to use their material in your submission proposal, as standard.

What about Fan Art?

Fan Art is handled a bit differently. We are only able to accept Fan Art featuring characters from the HSMP Lineup. You will be credited for the work, but for Fan Art only, all Fan Art of this type will become property of Lime Media Hawaii. In addition, art featuring HSMP characters may NOT be posed on another website without seeking permission from their Creator(s) first

What's an HSMP Tryout Segment and how does it work?

A Try Out Segment is handled exactly like a new series submission (if using your own material) but it's only a 4 page long one shot specifically aimed at new creators taking their first step into doing comics for real. If doing ANYTHING using an HSMP Character (see above) or someone else's copyrighted character you MUST get consent of the Creator first before submitting a try out segment featuring characters that are not your own!

Is there a deadline?

Lime Media Hawaii is always accepting submissions. HSMP Segments usually turn over every thirteen (13) issues; General Submissions Deadlines are  in Spring (April), Summer (July), Fall (October), and Winter (January).

What happens then?

We review the materials and select Creators for contact within 30 days after the deadline.

And if I'm chosen, then what?

If we contact you and negotiate a contract, you're in, and committed to your Deadlines. We will then assign you your production schedule that must be met. Our Deadlines leave NO room for error for the Manga Project's production schedule. You must also make yourself available for promotional and tradeshow efforts for HSMP. (IE interviews, charity auctions, helping out at con tables, distributing flyers and responsible social networking to help promote the book.)

General Content Guidelines, Deadlines, Segment & Series Length

*Each Creator whose work is accepted for publication must abide by CONTENT RESTRICTIONS as Lime Media Hawaii screens submissions for HSMP (see below for details). Lime Media Hawaii is committed to quality stories that have broad based appeal. We have to watch what we publish for public consumption since many potential readers of HSMP aren't adults. Each Creator gets a Schedule and a DEADLINE! Each Creator rotates in the book, and everyone shares cover time.

*The LENGTH of each Creators episode or Segment, is determined by the SCHEDULE which is set in advance. Each HSMP issue is carefully planned to allow Creators to share space. Depending on the Schedule, each creator is given 4-8 pages for a Standard Segment and 8-12 pages for a Cover Segment

*For Long Term and Short Series Proposals the following rules apply: Creators doing a Long Term series (8-13+ episodes), A MINIMUM OF 8 EPISODES IS DUE BEFORE YOUR FIRST EPISODE RUNS. For Creators doing a Short Series (7 or fewer episodes) we'll need the COMPLETE SERIES RUN, UPFRONT.

*Due to Segment length limits, tight plotting and effective use of space is STRONGLY suggested. For an idea of what we're talking about see our Samples & Examples.

But...WHY?

Late & irregular product DOOMS most independent comics. We need to work far in advance, as this allows us enough time in case revisions to story and/or art are needed, or fix to problems (i.e. art too dark or too light, for example).HSMP's deadlines are very tight, and we have NO MARGIN FOR ERROR, thus the emphasis on punctuality.

What Are the Content Restrictions For HSMP?

If HSMP were a movie, it would be PG - PG-13. HSMP will be offered in  many different sites & retailers, and we must be considerate of the more sensitive Readers. We will not accept materials that contain extreme profanity or depict graphic violence, nudity, or sexual situations. You may imply but not show an actual incident. We respect Creators creativity and demands of story, and we feel these guidelines are the best compromise for Creators and our Readers.

Lime Media Hawaii reserves the right to refuse or request changes to a Creator's materials if the editorial staff determines it contains questionable content.

What is the Submissions Form?

It is a document to protect us from claims of plagiarism. We hold EVERY Submission with ABSOLUTE confidentiality, and will NEVER discuss them with others outside of the company. If you have more than just yourself working on your proposal, like a friend who was your inker or penciller say, THEY ALSO MUST FILL OUT A FORM & SIGN IT.

Do I have to give up my Copyrights?

Absolutely not! CREATORS RETAIN THEIR COPYRIGHTS, Period. We use CREATOR OWNED works, We are NOT doing "WORK FOR HIRE"!! You (and your production team, if any) OWN your own stuff. We just publish it. You license us certain rights with your contract, and only for your contracts duration, like reprint rights; posting art for HSMP's website or promotions flyers; making promo items like t-shirts or posters etc. For anything else, we need your permission, because you own it, not us.
